BBCFresh from being declared Britain’s favourite sitcom, classic comedy Only Fools and Horses has now been snapped up by streaming media giants Netflix.
The BBC is reportedly set to cash in, selling the rights to the beloved show so people can watch Del Boy, Rodney, Uncle Albert and the gang whenever they please, but the actors who portrayed the characters may not be as thrilled as the fans.
If reports are correct, the likes of Sir David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst and John Challis may be left feeling like right plonkers as the deal won’t bring much of a windfall for any of the show’s stars.
Challis, 73, who played car dealer Boycie in the John Sullivan-penned juggernaut, said the digital tie-up was “not a great deal” for him.
Speaking to the Mirror, he said:
Everyone thinks we’re all millionaires but we get a percentage of a percentage.
Meanwhile, the BBC reportedly makes more than £200 million ($310m) a year selling shows abroad.
