The world’s favourite archaeologist, Indiana Jones, is coming back to the big screen, Disney have confirmed – and, even better, Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg may be involved.
CEO Bob Iger announced the news during an interview with Bloomberg News where he promised “more great stories with George Lucas’ Star Wars and Indiana Jones, which will be coming”.
In more great news, master filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four films in the Indiana Jones franchise, has teased that he would sign on for another movie with Harrison Ford playing the lead.
In an interview with Screen International, Spielberg said:
As long as there’s more adventures out there, I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done. [It’s] certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into [Ford’s] shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman.
Ford, 71, has played the adventurous archaeologist since the original 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it’s still not known if he’ll reprise his role.
However, Ford did tell Entertainment Weekly:
Yeah, I’d love to do another Indiana Jones. A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director – what’s not to like?

Despite Spielberg saying that no one will replace Ford the producers aren’t so sure, producer Frank Marshall told Total Film:
There are a lot of rumours. We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton. We’re not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones…we have to figure this out.
If Ford chooses not to appear then both Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper have been rumoured to take on the iconic part.
Disney got the rights to both Indiana Jones and Star Wars when it bought Lucasfilm for 4 billion in 2012. Unfortunately there’s no word on a release date yet and, with Ford allegedly appearing in the next Star Wars, his schedule will probably be busy for some time yet.
First Star Wars, now Indiana Jones – it’s like I died and went to movie nostalgia heaven!
