Finally, we are saying goodbye to the vertical video! Well, on mobile at least, which is pretty much how the majority of people view YouTube videos these days.

The Google-owned video powerhouse has just announced a brand new ‘streamlined’ design for its app which will allow users to watch video in vertical mode. This means that those really annoying black rectangles at the side of videos will now be abolished. Yay.

It’s part of a way to start improving the usability of the app for mobile users who generate a very high percentage of their traffic and views – more than half of all web traffic to YouTube comes from mobile.

Android users are the first to get the new feature, which is available right now for those with said operating systems – but Apple users will have to wait a little longer.
