Robin Hood is heading back to Sherwood Forest, and this time he isn’t an anthropomorphised fox with no pants.
The legendary rogue from Nottingham is getting a new lease of life with a thrilling new Medieval adventure, which critics are likening to Game of Thrones and Arrow.
This new teaser trailer Robin Hood looks way grittier than Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves or the popular BBC adaption.
Safe to say, those of us missing the blood-soaked lands of Westeros are getting excited…
Starring Taron Edgerton as the arrow wielding rebel himself, the superb cast also boasts Jamie Foxx as Hood’s right hand man Little John and Ben Mendelsohn as the repugnant Sheriff of Nottingham.
Bridge of Spies actor Eve Hewson will play the outlaw’s love interest; feisty noblewoman Maid Marian.
According to the IMDb synopsis, the premise is as follows:
A war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance.
Check out the fast-paced teaser trailer for yourself below:
Director Otto Bathurst has previously directed Peaky Blinders as well as the notoriously grim National Anthem episode of Black Mirror.
Fingers crossed the only pigs in this feature will be being roasted over a rebel campfire…
Intrigued hoards of film buffs have taken to Twitter to express their opinions on this promising looking trailer.
One person exclaimed:
Awesome trailer! So damn excited! And can i say how badass and cool Taron Egerton is especially here?
Another blissfully sighed:
It’s like 300 and the new King Arthur movie had a baby – glorious.

However, others just cannot let go of the charmingly cunning fox from their childhoods; tweeting pictures of the bushy tailed bandit in solidarity.
To be fair, this is exactly the kind of bold hearted freedom of speech egalitarian Robin would have approved.

The story of Robin Hood and his band of merry men has been told for centuries in numerous ways – and with varying levels of success – but yet it still has the power to enthral.
Who after all doesn’t love a secret anti-establishment hero who is all about representing the poor and needy under a tyrannical regime?
However, like many others, Egerton himself was originally unsure about whether or not the world needed another Robin Hood film. He knew it was the right decision after better understanding Bathurst’s vision.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Egerton said:
I was approached not long after the first Kingsman movie had come out, and my initial response, to be totally honest, was ‘Why?’
[But] Otto told me he wanted to do something entirely revisionist, something that can’t be tied down to a medieval universe.
The first act of the movie, these scenes crusading in Syria, were written like something from The Hurt Locker. It was fantastic, and that was enough to convince me.
