GettyThe man suspected of detonating an explosive device in New York City is being held in custody after a shootout with police.
The BBC report that 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami was found sleeping in the doorway of a bar in Linden, New Jersey.
After his discovery. Rahami opened fire on officers injuring two but police returned fire. In the firefight Rahami was shot and captured.
The suspect is now allegedly undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound.
Linden mayor Derek Armstead confirmed that the two officers were hurt in the incident but reassured people that both were ‘ok and safe’.
Rahami is an Afghan-born U.S. citizen, who was named by the FBI as a suspect in Saturday’s Manhattan bombing which injured 28 people.
GettyWilliam Sweeney, the FBI assistant director in charge of New York explained that investigators had found evidence linking Rahami to both the devices found in New Jersey and New York.
He went on to add that there was no indication a terror cell was active in either New Jersey or New York.
Those who know Mr Rahami have said that the family were ordinary and ‘Americanised’ with one adding: ‘[he’s] very friendly guy, that’s what’s so scary’.
