The video is aptly titled ‘Explore’ and takes us on a whistle stop tour of just a few of the 18 quintillion procedurally generated planets we’ll be visiting on our journey to the centre of the universe.
As you’d expect from such a massive universe, the game promises ‘limitless variety’. It seems every planet will have some kind of new life to discover and catalogue, from strange fauna and unusual alien beasts, right through to menacing deep sea creatures.
If you’re the first to discover a plant or animal in the game, you actually get to name it for future travelers – Prepare to stumble across an endless wave of Dickbutts, Poopyholes, and Titfiddlers (those are just a few of the names I have saved for personal use).
The video ends with a fantastic quote from Andre Gide:
Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.
This short clip is just the first in No Man’s Sky’s ‘Guide to the Galaxy’ video series. The next three videos are called ‘Fight’, ‘Trade’, and ‘Survival’.
If I were a betting man, I’d say these upcoming videos will show off the combat, trading, and survival elements of the game respectively.
Check out ‘Explore’ just below.
No Man’s Sky is scheduled to launch on August 9 in North America, followed by August 10 in Europe, and August 12 in the UK – the perfect antidote to going outside and seeing the sun this summer.
