North Korea Fires Missiles Into Sea Of Japan As Conflict Escalates

As if the world wasn’t scary enough, North Korea has just launched two short range missiles into the Sea of Japan.

The attack comes just days after the U.S. and South Korea began their biggest ever ‘war games’ as they practice going to war with North Korea. The North feels such ‘games’ are infringing its sovereignty.

It is suggested that the missile launch is a direct response to the U.S. and South Korea’s training drills.

According to RT, North Korea fired two ballistic missiles at 5:20am local time, which flew 310 miles before falling into the sea.

South Korea’s Joint Chief of Staff released a statement which said:

The military is keeping close tabs on the situation and is prepared to deal with any North Korean provocations.

In a meeting with nuclear scientists on Tuesday, Kim Jong-un told how he will resort to nuclear strikes if there is any aggression from America.

The leader also stated that in the capital of his country, Pyongyang, scientists had managed to create a nuclear warhead which can be adapted to fit onto normal ballistic missiles.

There is thought to be more than 300,000 South Korean and 15,000 U.S. troops taking part in the large-scale military exercises which will run up until 30th April.

They are intended to warn North Korea against provocations, according to South Korean defence minister Han Min-koo, reports the BBC.

However, North Korea is viewing the war games as merely a rehearsal for an invasion and have warned that it would launch ‘a preemptive and offensive nuclear strike’ against the allies in the case of provocation

Tensions have been running high since the North allegedly tested a nuclear device in January, closely followed by a rocket launch.
