GettyNorth Korean diplomats have been spotted in Moscow for a ‘secret meeting’ with Vladimir Putin’s senior advisers.
In the past few months tensions between North Korea and the West have hit new heights, with the UN putting severe sanctions on the notoriously isolationist nation in response to several nuclear bomb tests performed by the country.
Now Choe Son-hui, a senior North Korean diplomat, has been filmed meeting with the Russian ambassador Oleg Burmistrov at the Hermit Kingdom’s Moscow embassy.
PA ImagesThe Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharov confirmed that officials had met met but declined to provide details about what exactly was discussed during the meeting.
According to the Daily Star the talks lasted for five hours and while we don’t know what was said behind closed doors we can probably guess they weren’t talking about the Kylie Jenner pregnancy rumours.
They were probably discussing Russia parking a rather large army on North Korea’s border earlier this week, then followed it up with the Kylie Jenner chat.
GettyWhile you expect a meeting between Russia and North Korea to raise an eyebrow in Washington the White House has been surprisingly optimistic about the whole thing.
According to the Daily Star, the US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the White House doesn’t see the meeting as a bad thing.
She added:
Diplomacy is our preferred approach. If Russia can be successful in getting North Korea to move in a better direction, we would certainly welcome that.
GettyFurthermore the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has claimed he’s confident neither the US or Pyongyang would attack each other with nuclear weapons.
He believes that both nations have too much to lose and that the resulting devastation would simply be too much for either nation to control.

Unfortunately one thing that won’t ease the tension is the coroner’s report into the death of American citizen Otto Warmbier who was held prisoner in North Korea for 17 months before returning home in a vegetative state.
He died six days later and the report revealed he suffered severe brain damage as a result of disrupted blood flow and oxygen deprivation.
