As America mourns the loss of life caused by the deadliest mass shooting in US history, more details of murderous enigma, Stephen Paddock, are coming to light.

The note, containing a cryptic series of numbers was discovered next to the mass shooter’s body by the authorities has now been decoded and found to contain calculations on the slaughter which claimed 58 lives, guiding Paddock’s aim to ‘increase his number of kills’.

Las Vegas police officer David Newton told CBS he noticed Paddock’s note ‘on the table near his shooting platform’ when he entered the hotel room.

In an interview airing Sunday on CBS’ 60 Minutes three police officers who stormed Stephen Paddock’s hotel room in the Mandalay Bay hotel tell correspondent Bill Whitaker new details about the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

Officer David Newton recalled:

I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was going to be for the crowd. So he had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there.

Today, Eric Paddock, the younger brother of the perpetrator of the Las Vegas shooting that killed 58 people on Sunday 1 October, inuring over 500, has spoken out again about his sibling’s habits.

Eric recalled his brother’s personality, dubbing the Mesquite, Nevada local the ‘King of microagression’. Paddock – a regular at hazy smoke-filled casinos, usually kept a cigar at hand – even though he did not smoke.

When somebody sat down beside him and lit up he would take out his cigar, light it and carefully aim its smoke back into the faces of those whose puffing annoyed him.

Stephen Paddock’s real estate and gambling exploits turned him into a multimillionaire. Now the family of one victim of this mass shooting wants to freeze his estate as the FBI investigation into his motives continues.

The 64-year-old local ‘lone-wolf’ had amassed 42 offensive weapons, 17 of which he transported to his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Hotel, from where he unleashed a hailstorm of bullets onto concert-goers at 10:30pm on Sunday October 1, killing 59 people and injuring over 500.

The details of his firearms have since been revealed by authorities to include a majority of rifles and at least one handgun.

The note reportedly has still not shed any light on what drove the retired real estate investor and high-stakes gambler to carry out the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.

Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said:

We have looked at everything, literally, to include the suspect’s personal life, any political affiliation, his social behaviours, economic situation, any potential radicalisation.

We have been down each and every single one of these paths, trying to determine why, to determine who else may have known of these plans.

The shooting has sparked a heated nationwide debate around gun control in America.

Jimmy Kimmel perfectly summed up the reaction in a powerful televised speech:

The investigation into Paddock’s motive for committing this atrocity is still ongoing.

Our thoughts are with all those affected at this devastating time.
