We already know that theft in Rio is at its prime right now thanks to the Olympics, but this photo uploaded by a Russian Olympian shows just how terrifying it actually is.
Swimmer Evgeny Korotyshkin posted a chilling photo of two heavily armed children after claiming he was mugged in Rio.
In a caption, the 33-year-old wrote that he was robbed by the boys near Ipanema Beach.
He said the group ‘parted amicably’ after he emptied his pockets and gave them everything he had, and added that fans shouldn’t worry as ‘all is well with me’, the Huffington Post reports.
How did he manage to take a photo of his assailants while getting mugged? No idea. But it still looks fucking terrifying.
The retired athlete, who is in Rio to support Team Russia, lamented that his robbers did not have ‘more interesting things’ to play with than guns, and that they had been taught to steal.
Since the Games begun, there have been widespread reports of violence in the city.

In addition to – sometimes violent – petty theft in the streets, a bus carrying journalists from an Olympic park had its windows shattered, a stray bullet ripped through a media tent at the venue hosting equestrian events, and Olympic security chief Felipe Seixas was attacked after leaving the opening ceremony.
Rio mayor Eduardo Paes boasted before the games the city would be the ‘safest place in the world’, but with only 88,000 security personnel in total protecting 500,000 fans (and thousands of Olympians) expected over 17 days, it doesn’t look like Rio is as safe as we hoped.
