GettyAn Olympic gold medallist has been potentially saved from cancer after a fan noticed a dangerous looking mole on the swimmer’s chest.
The 400m freestyle winner took to Instagram this morning, showing that he had undergone surgery to have the mole removed, admitting that a concerned fan had emailed the Australian to give him a heads up about it, reports the Daily Mail.
He wrote:
Shout out to the person that emailed the swim team doctor and told me to get my mole checked out. Good call. Very good call.
The post was accompanied by a photo of Mack giving a thumbs up with a bandage on his chest.
Harrowingly, photos and videos of Horton from the Olympics clearly show a mole on his upper chest which visibly got larger and darker over a matter of years.
Australia has one of the largest rates of skin cancer in the world with a shocking 66 per cent of the country being diagnosed with the disease by the time they reach 70.
Over 2,000 Australians die from skin cancer every year.
