One Egyptian billionaire has made a sensational offer after seeing the plight of refugees from Syria.
After details came out of more than 2,300 people dying trying to reach Europe via the sea recently, Naguib Sawiris has offered to help by purchasing an island off the coast of Greece and allowing refugees to live there.
He now plans to approach both the Greece and Italian governments with the plan, stating that he thinks it is perfectly feasible to do.
Naguib Sawiris claimed:
Greece or Italy sell me an island, I’ll call its independence and host the migrants and provide jobs for them building their new country.
You have dozens of islands which are deserted and could accommodate hundreds of thousands of refugees.
The island would cost between $10 million and $100 million, and his family are no strangers to having developed islands, building the El Gouna resort on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
