Barack Obama has appeared visibly frustrated, sickened and angry by the Umpqua Community College shooting. He does not believe “more guns will make us safer.” Meanwhile, mainstream media like CNN blames ‘beta’ males and the internet.
Obama has addressed the United States over a college shooting in which 13 people were murdered overnight. News.com.au has reported that it is a very frank, honest speech. I also find it to be quite morose and melancholy.
“Somehow this has become routine. The reporting is routine, my response here at this podium ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath of it has become routine.”
“The conversation in the aftermath of it has become routine.” I was instantly able to relate to that because for some reason I watched a CNN report after his speech and the conversation was incredibly dimwitted… It was aggravating. I’ll put that link below in a sec.

An exasperated Obama says we’re all responsible for the latest school shooting in Oregon. “We, collectively, are answerable to those families who lose their loved ones because of our inaction.”
I won’t go into overdrive analysing everything in his speech, his edging towards gun ownership being about “politics” and “inaction” is what many of us from all parts of the world are already discussing, analysing, and emphatically debating online. I’m just going to 100% agree with the feeling of gun massacres in such a developed nation becoming…
A tiring routine.

About that CNN report which has spurred on the feeling of routine and repetition…
Seeing these types of conversations on mainstream TV pop up so fast and feel so one-dimensional is just frustrating. I remember blame being directed towards Marilyn Manson after Columbine many years ago. Violent video games have also had their time in the spotlight… They still get a lot of time in the spotlight over here in Australia.
But now in 2015 the one to blame is the internet, message boards and socialisation on the web. Being a bloke with a masters degree in internet communications I can’t help but want to stick up for the internet, I’ll curb the rant though, in essence, it’s simply an outright whopping and broad target to place the blame on.
Keeping the blame so broad kind of feels like it reduces the effort to come up with tangible, step-by-step solutions to this crisis.
Anyhow, CNN are putting it out there as soon as they can, though. Have a watch of this now you’ve seen Obama’s reasonably considered, heartfelt thoughts. See what you make of it:
I truly don’t want to sound like another arrogant Aussie that thinks they have the answers. I don’t have ’em. At the same time, I can’t just offer condolences like a fucking robot. I love America. Been there four times. My sadness is just flatlining into a numbness with the odd spike of anger.
I have felt like I really want some form of “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore” speech to come from someone in power in the U.S.A in regards to guns. Obama flirted with such a speech today, he reeled it back in, but overall I think he raised some great points.
CNN on the other hand… Back away from my beloved internet please. It absolutely has its dark and hideous underbelly, like the face-to-face world has had for centuries without it, but considering its here to stay as a part of everyday life globally… I don’t consider it to be a very viable culprit.
