Disgraced Olympian and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius is finding adjusting to prison ‘easy’ according to family members.

The infuriating comments come as Pistorius begins his six year stretch at South Africa’s infamous Kgosi Mampuru II prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

On Valentine’s Day 2013, the once celebrated athlete and double-amputee shot and killed the model through a locked toilet door – an incident he insists was an accident.

According to the Daily Star, the family member said:

He is finding things much easier, he is mentally much better prepared and an easier place in his mind, he is at peace with where he is.

He is hoping to be able to concentrate on his studies and is getting a lot of comfort from his faith. He will be strong and get through this time with more peace of mind.

Pistorius’ ‘peace of mind’ may be shattered soon though, the BBC reports, as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in South Africa has outlined plans to appeal his short sentence.

They’ve said his sentence is ‘disproportionate to the crime’ and could bring the justice system ‘into disrepute’ as it’s less than half the usual 15 statutory years for murder.

In a statement, the NPA said:

We hope that this appeal will also clarify further the principles of sentencing, particularly in crime categories for which there are prescribed minimum sentences ordained by legislation.

They also claim that Pistorius has shown inadequate remorse for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.
