Comedian Paddy McGuinness said he sometimes feels like he’s ‘slowly drowning’ since his twins’ diagnosis with autism.
Paddy and his wife, Christine, have been speaking out to raise awareness of autism since their four-year-old twins, Leo and Penelope, were diagnosed.
In an interview with the Mirror, Paddy says he’d do anything to ‘take the condition away’ from them.
He said:
Some days, it feels like you’re slowly drowning. It’s like you’re under water desperately swimming up to get oxygen, but never getting there.
Every parent just wants their child to be happy and to protect them. I should be the happiest I have ever been with my career, family and friends, but I can honestly say I am never happy in myself now. I constantly worry about them. I would give up everything to take this condition away from them.
Christine also shared her thoughts and experiences on ITV daytime show Loose Women, last week and she opened up in a heartfelt Instagram post marking the twins’ fourth birthday at the start of the month.
