One couple were horrified when they discovered the ‘old buoy’ that their kids were playing with and taking photos in front of was actually a bomb.

To make matters worse for Kelly and Gareth Gravell, the bomb, on the beach in Carmarthenshire, Wales, was active.

Initially, the couple thought nothing of their two kids, 6-year-old Erin and 4-year-old Ellis, playing with the object, but then became suspicious when the beach was closed five days later.

They then learnt that authorities had determined it was a 70-year-old mine from World War II, and had brought in a specialist squad to detonate it.

Kelly Gravell claimed:

The tide was up so we discovered what we later learned was the bomb — we just thought it was a buoy. We were more interested in the barnacles on it and the kids were looking at them while Gareth noticed that it had a chain on.

I even made the joke that it was a big bomb at the time but did not think anything of it.

Obviously the couple are seriously relieved and lucky that no harm came to their kids, and have claimed that they would return to the beach, but would probably think twice before messing around with an unknown item again.
