A murderer who was dubbed the ‘Ice Pick Killer’ uttered three final words when he was executed, and they were pathetic.
Danny Bible was a serial killer who murdered four people. With one of his victims in 1979, he used an ice pick, which earned him his nickname as the ‘Ice Pick Killer’.
The 66-year-old was executed by lethal injection on Wednesday June 27.
Bible confessed to killing four people, including his sister-in-law’s infant son, during a rape and murder rampage.
Bible was also later convicted for the rape and murder of 20-year-old Inez Deaton, who went into Bible’s home next door to use his phone and ended up being stabbed 11 times with an ice pick. Bible dumped Deaton’s body in Houston.
The woman’s murder went unsolved for almost 20 years, until Bible came forward and confessed to her murder, as well as other sexual assaults, including the rape of an 11-year-old girl in Montana.
A last minute plea from Bible’s lawyers, claiming that the murderer’s veins were too compromised for a lethal injection, was rejected by the US Supreme Court, and the man was put to death in the state prison’s death chamber in Huntsville.
Bible was strapped to a gurney and injected with the lethal concoction.
The Houston Chronicle reported that Bible shook from Parkinson’s tremors, and that he muttered ‘it hurts’, ‘burning’, before closing one eye, snoring, and falling silent forever.
The killer stopped moving three minutes after he was injected, and was pronounced dead at 6.32pm local time on Wednesday evening.
In 1983 Bible went on a rape and murder rampage that involved killing his sister-in-law Tracy Powers and her four-month-old infant son, as well as the woman’s roommate Pam Hudgins.
Bible was sentenced to 25 years for those killings, but after only eight years he was put on parole under a programme that Texas has since scrapped.
After his release, he raped a woman in Louisiana.
He was caught in Florida for the rape; he then confessed to the ice pick murder, in ‘exchange for a pack of Winstons and the promise of avoiding the death chamber’, the Houston Chronicle report. Of course despite the earlier promise, Bible was sentenced to death in 2003. He fought this sentence up until his last moments.
A court filing heard Texas say:
Bible has killed at least four people, including an infant. Unlike many offenders, he remained violent as he aged, committing his most recent rape in his late forties.
Mrs. Powers’ brother spoke to reporters about how he was glad the murderer had finally got what he deserved following the execution.
He said:
Danny Paul Bible is as a vile and evil a person that has ever drawn breath.
We are glad to have witnessed him draw his last breath. I know that he will burn in hell for eternity.
Bible’s execution was the 12th in the US and seventh in Texas in 2018. Texas has executed more inmates than any state since the reintroduction of the death penalty in 1976.
A prison official reported that the murderer made no last statement.
