You can buy a bag of premium potatoes from your local supermarket for just a couple of quid, but you best have a bit more in the bank if you want this photo of an organic Irish spud.

Incredibly the artist behind the image, Kevin Abosch, managed to sell the photo for €1m (£750,000).

According to Abosch, who has offices in Dublin and Paris, a customer walked into his shop and requested to purchase the image straight off the wall.

Abosch also revealed that a few alcoholic beverages were consumed during the buying process. Make of that what you will.

He told the Sunday Times:

It’s not the first time that someone has bought the art right off my wall.

We had two glasses of wine and he said, “I really like that”.

Two more glasses of wine and he said: “I really want that”. We set the price two weeks later.

In fairness to Abosch he has photographed the likes of Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Johnny Depp, and Malala Yousafzai, so that status probably helped add a few zeroes onto the price tag.
