Albuquerque Metropolitan Detention Center/WikimediaPolice officers in Albuquerque, New Mexico have found 44 stolen diamonds up a motorcyclist’s anal cavity after they pulled him over during a routine traffic stop.
23-year-old Eusebio Padilla had been pulled over by officers for reportedly riding a motorcycle without a licence plate on Sunday, April 7.
After he was placed in handcuffs during this traffic stop, Mr Padilla was observed removing a ‘baggy from his buttcrack’ and placing it on the ground.
After examining this baggy, Officer Daniel DeGraff discovered it contained almost four dozen small diamonds.

As reported by the Albuquerque Journal, Mr Padilla admitted to Officer DeGraff that it was likely the diamonds had been stolen, and explained he had obtained them from a relative who ‘usually has stolen items’.
Mr Padilla also admitted that he had intended to sell the precious stones for drugs.
According to a criminal complaint which has been filed in Metropolitan Court by Officer DeGraff:
Based on the uncommon behavior of concealing diamonds in packaging commonly used to store narcotics, and concealing it in his butt cavity, and the attempt to get rid of the item, it was apparent to me that Padilla must have known the baggy of diamonds was stolen.
Police officers also found a knife on Mr Padilla’s person during the traffic stop.

Speaking with KOB 4, experienced jeweler Lonnie Schroeder estimated the value of the diamonds found in Mr Padilla’s rear end:
I’ll give you an example. If they’re a half carat, that can start as low as $500 and go up as high as $7,000 to $8,000 depending on quality of the stone.
So, speculating, that was a lot of value I’ll bet. Probably tens of thousands.
Mr Schroeder noted:
The first thing that comes to mind is a smuggler.
The actual value of the diamonds found inside Mr Padilla’s rectum has not been reported at the time of writing.

Mr Padilla has now been booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center, and faces multiple charges including tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property as well as some traffic violations. It is not known whether or not Mr Padilla has an attorney.
