Cruel letters accusing a man of being a paedophile and member of the BNP have been posted through letterboxes in Easington, County Durham.

The Mirror report the spiteful letters have been mocked up to look like they were sent by Durham Police, warning the man’s neighbours he was a danger to their kids.

The atrociously spelt notes accuses the man of being a ‘British National Party Racist & Pedofile Member’ before urging people to ‘be careful with your children and report him strait away’.

Acting Inspector Paul Footes said:

The letters contain allegations about a named person which are completely false, and are causing them distress.

Whoever posted the notes has falsely used Durham Constabulary‘s logo on the poorly forged leaflets.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said:

At first glance they may look as though they have come from Durham Constabulary since whoever has sent them has used the force badge and a photo featuring police officers. But we want to stress these have definitely not been sent by anyone in this force.

20 people have so far reported receiving the letter, which Inspector Footes said should be thrown away.

He said:

If anyone else receives one of these through the post we would suggest they destroy the letter and think nothing more of it, there is no need to hand it in.

Police are now investigating whoever is sending the letters and they may face criminal charges.
