The last thing anyone wants to hear is that a great big snake is on the loose, roaming through town after escaping.

Unfortunately for residents in Kells, Whitehaven, Cumbria, that’s exactly what has happened to them, with an eight-foot boa constrictor slithering around.

Said snake, which is actually a household pet, escaped after being let out of its cage on Friday evening, while it was being cleaned, and made a break for freedom after being left unattended.

Police have issued a warning for people in the Cumbria area, yet have played down fears the snake (which is eight-feet long in case you missed that part) is a risk to the public.

That is despite boa constrictors being known for holding their prey in their grasp, and squeezing the life out of them. Not a great thought really.

Police claimed:

The animal does not pose an immediate risk to the public, however if sighted advice is not to approach it and to contact police immediately.

Yep, that’s enough stomach churning thoughts for me tonight.
