Prosecutors have released hundreds of phone calls made by the ‘cannibal killer’ Austin Harrouff to his family, including one where he says he just wants to be normal again.
20-year-old Austin Harrouff has been accused of stabbing his neighbours John Stevens III, 59, and Michelle Mishcon, 53, to death on August 15 after an argument with his father at a restaurant.
He also severely injured John and Michelle’s neighbour, Jeff Fisher, who attempted to step in. He was discovered chewing on John Stevens’ face leading to him being labelled a cannibal killer.

It was suspected that Harrouff was high on Bath Salts or a similar substance but a toxicology report showed there were no drugs in his system during the supposed attack.
Despite the report court documents show Harrouff told paramedics that he’d smoked marijuana and drank alcohol before the attack.
The State Attorney’s Office in Martin County has released ten hours of recordings where Harrouff details how bored he is in jail, his desire for mental help and how he misses home.
In a conversation with his mother he says:
I just want to go outside and be with you guys … it’s just so hard to get used to.
The calls also detail Harrouff’s changing behaviour. In the first recordings he’s reportedly cries constantly and complains about being in prison.
Over time though Harrouff becomes more monotone with him answering questions with one word answers, laughing briefly and even making unintelligible noises at points.
Harrouff’s attorneys are on record saying their client struggles from mental illness.
His next hearing is set for July 25.
