In an incredible act of heroism, an off-duty policeman saved a three-year-old girl’s life in a donut shop – on the morning of his wedding day!
Little did this Indiana University Police officer know that his hankering for an early donut would save a life, but he was the right man in the right place at the right time.
Just before officer John O’Rourke was set to say his wedding vows, he decided he needed a little sugary dutch courage from Donuts to Go in Sanford, Florida, when the emergency broke out.
As John was waiting for his treat – and undoubtedly going through his speech – he noticed people crowding around a little girl who’d lost consciousness after suffering a seizure.
Without a moment’s hesitation, John stepped in and with his quick-thinking response, managed to save the life of the three-year-old.
Taking control of the frightening situation, John ordered someone to call emergency services, while he performed CPR on the tot and thankfully his action saw her eyes flicker open just as paramedics arrived.
After the girl had been stabilised, the shop thanked heroic John for saving the day and even gave him a big box of donuts as a thank you.
John O’Rourke wrote on Facebook:
It had to be a donut shop. You can’t make this up. I just sat in my car, for about 20 minutes, processing everything.
With the life of a young girl successfully saved, John headed off to do what he’d set out to do – get married.
His friends from the Florida Highway Patrol heard about John’s impressive superhero act, but it didn’t seem to surprise them, as they said he had a habit for being ‘at the right place at the right (or wrong) time.’
This was certainly not your average day.
Not only did he save the life of a child, but he managed to get married and even earned himself a big box of donuts in the process.
What an absolute hero.
