Shortly after Meghan Markle gave birth to her first child with Prince Harry, one question abounded.

Actually, many questions abounded. Notably: What’s his name? When are we going to see a picture of him? Is he healthy? When can we see him? Et cetera et cetera.

But one question in particular had people scratching their heads, and it was with regards to whether the royal baby would be able to run for president of the United States.

Early on Monday morning (May 6), the royal family announced Meghan had gone into labour with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcoming a baby boy shortly afterwards.

After the congratulatory messages and words of support had been given, peoples’ attention soon turned to whether the royal baby could run for president. Not right now, obviously, but when he’s a bit older.

Despite many claiming that only those born on US soil are eligible to run for presidency, it’s now being reported it is possible for Baby Archie to run for office in the future – making him the first person ever to have the right to do both this and become the King of England.

How is this possible then? As reported by Newsweek, the royal baby could become president if he has dual citizenship. Although Meghan and Harry haven’t mentioned plans related to this, he is certainly eligible for it.

Obviously Baby Archie is automatically a British citizen because he was born here and because of Prince Harry’s citizenship; he will also be granted American citizenship based on Meghan’s status as a US citizen.

This is only if the birth of Baby Sussex is officially reported to an American consulate by his parents though, after which he can obtain US citizenship.

Despite having the right to become both the British monarch and US president, it’s very unlikely the royal baby will do either. Primarily because he’s currently seventh in line to the throne and any runner for presidency must have lived in the US for at least 14 years and be over the age of 35.

Still, it’s a possibility that in 35 years, we’ll be seeing Baby Archie on our TV screens running for president. Hey, it’d be better than Trump.

Which is a bit weird when you think about it, that there’s probably more chance of him becoming president than becoming King. Unless Charles, Wills, George, Charlotte, Louis and Harry all decide to step down and let him rule.

Congratulations to Megan and Harry on the birth of their baby boy!
