Prince Charles To Walk Meghan Markle Down The Aisle

It’s been announced Prince Charles will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle tomorrow, (May 19), when she marries his son, Prince Harry.

The announcement was made by Kensington Palace after it was revealed her father, Thomas Markle, was unable to attend the wedding due to last minute heart surgery.

On Thursday, (May 17), Ms Markle released a statement in which she hoped her father would have the space to recover and focus more on his health.

Today, (May 18), a statement from Kensington Palace said:

Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her wedding day.

The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.

As an outspoken activist and actress, Meghan Markle is already proving to be a truly unique addition to the Royal family.

The 36-year-old former Suits actor, who’s set to marry Prince Harry this weekend, will be breaking hearts on both sides of the pond.

While details of the wedding have remained tight-lipped, it’s a fair bet this royal occasion will not be the stuffy, stiff-upper-lipped event of days gone by.

It appears Meghan Markle herself will be shaping the wedding to reflect the couple’s fun-loving personalities. While some may view this as sacrilege and a breakdown of ‘Royal tradition’, this is a modern, independent-thinking couple.

In an interesting take on a centuries-old regal custom, Meghan herself is said to be delivering a speech at the reception, where she’ll give an ‘affectionate’ tribute to her husband-to-be.

The speech is reported to include a thank you to The Queen, as well as family and friends.

Apparently, there’ll also be a couple of cheeky jokes which, let’s face it, is a brave move when your audience includes the bloody Queen.

A source told The Sunday Times:

The feeling is if Meghan’s father doesn’t speak for her, she wants to have the chance to thank her husband and everyone who has supported them.

She’s already proved herself with a passionate speech at the UN Women’s 2015 conference, where she discussed her interest in fighting for worthy causes at just 11-years-old:

They changed it from ‘Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans’ to ‘People all over America,’

It means that a wife is equal to her husband, a sister to her brother. Not better, not worse — they are equal.

It was at that moment that I realized the magnitude of my actions.

At the age of 11, I had created my small level of impact by standing up for equality.

One tradition which will have to be kept for this weekend’s wedding festivities, concerns Prince Harry and his lovely beard.

If rumours serve true he’ll be wearing his Household Calvary uniform, however, British military rules dictate, you’re not allowed a beard unless there are exceptional circumstances.

This means it’s a necessity for you to have one. The only exceptions are reasons concerning religion or problems with your skin. Only two sections of the army are allowed beards – Pioneer Sergeants and members of the Special Forces when fighting behind enemy lines.
