Prince Harry last week secretly flew over to a military camp in South Africa to join the war against animal poachers.
The 30-year-old prince has been going on night patrols with an army unit in the Kruger Park reserve, where last week, rangers confronted three poachers at Crocodile River which ended in a shootout.
It’s all part of the government’s anti-poaching campaign, Operation Corona – an operation that has already seen more than 300 poachers killed.
South African anti-poaching task teamThe night patrols use tracker dogs in order to hunt poachers, and let off green smoke bombs to alert helicopter pilots of a safe landing zone who then deploy attack teams. It’s a very efficient, and effective operation.
And it has to be. Up to 50 poachers cross into the park from surrounding neighbourhoods, all equipped with high-powered rifles and grenades – and they are ruthless.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Harry’s boss, Retired Major-General Johan Jooste, said: “Harry will be with me for quite some time. We’ll try to keep him safe.”
Let’s hope so, we’re pretty fond of Harry!
