Prince Harry last week secretly flew over to a military camp in South Africa to join the war against animal poachers.
The 30-year-old prince has been going on night patrols with an army unit in the Kruger Park reserve, where last week, rangers confronted three poachers at Crocodile River which ended in a shootout.
It’s all part of the government’s anti-poaching campaign, Operation Corona – an operation that has already seen more than 300 poachers killed.
The night patrols use tracker dogs in order to hunt poachers, and let off green smoke bombs to alert helicopter pilots of a safe landing zone who then deploy attack teams. It’s a very efficient, and effective operation.
And it has to be. Up to 50 poachers cross into the park from surrounding neighbourhoods, all equipped with high-powered rifles and grenades – and they are ruthless.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Harry’s boss, Retired Major-General Johan Jooste, said: “Harry will be with me for quite some time. We’ll try to keep him safe.”
