Earlier today, Prince Harry made an unlikely arrival at a sexual health clinic in Central London while on Facebook Live.
What was he doing there? Well that’s up for debate – but the prince insists it was to raise awareness of sexual health, and of HIV in particular, while urging others to get checked out.
The royal redhead and resident of a famous tourist attraction, took part in the finger prick test – where they basically just draw blood from your finger and tell you if you’ve tested positive or negative for HIV.
He only had to wait a matter of minutes to get his results, as his blood sample was mixed with numerous chemicals and poured into a test tray.
Fortunately for the 31-year-old, Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales, tested negatively which he said was ‘amazing’.
The Prince then asked:
Whether you’re a man, woman, gay, straight, black, whatever, even ginger, why wouldn’t you come and have a test?
The health adviser who conducted the test, Mr David Palmer, said that the prince was ‘anxious’.
Speaking about the importance of the prince’s test, he added:
It means this is a test for everybody – it doesn’t matter who you are, it’s a good idea to have an HIV test.
Sadly, there are over 100,000 people in the UK living every day with HIV, while the prince has been campaigning endlessly for a greater awareness surrounding the illness.
However, Public Health England in 2014 estimated that there are still 18,100 people unaware of their infection and at high risk of unknowingly and unwittingly passing on the virus.
Hopefully, Harry’s test will persuade more people in the UK to get themselves checked out.
