Prince Harry has been ‘warned’ not to invite former US President Barack Obama to his upcoming wedding to Meghan Markle.
The Prince chose to feature Mr Obama on the Today Programme, which he is guest-editing.
According to the Telegraph, the interview ‘highlights the close relationship between Prince Harry and Obama’ – and Harry has reportedly told aides he wants to invite Mr Obama and his wife Michelle to his wedding.
Yett civil servants are said to ‘fear a diplomatic issue’ if Barack Obama is invited to the wedding, which takes place on May 19th next year.
This is because current US President, Donald Trump, is ‘unlikely to get an invite’ – which leads to ‘fears he would not respond well if the Obamas were asked to come’ – which, let’s face it, would probably happen.
There are already tensions between the UK and US, supposedly, after Prime Minister Theresa May criticised Trump after he retweeted three videos made by far-right group, Britain First.
May said promoting the messages ‘was the wrong thing to do’, branding Britain First ‘a hateful organisation’ which ‘seeks to spread division and mistrust in our communities’ – because that’s what it is.
Meghan is also thought to not be a fan of Mr Trump, as she criticised him during last year’s presidential election.
On the flip side, Obama supported Harry’s ‘Invictus Games’ which were held in Toronto earlier in the year – in which wounded, injured and sick armed services personnel and veterans take part in sports.
Harry and Mr Obama watched the wheelchair basketball together.
According to the Telegraph, it was a ‘hero’s return’ for Mr Obama to the games, after he helped raise its profile through a series of videos last year.
What a legend.
Harry and Meghan announced their engagement on November 27th – an official statement followed the next day.
The couple will be married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in a wedding which will be paid for by the Royal Family.
The first photos of the happy couple surfaced after a photo call at The Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace – set up to officially announce their engagement.
In a recent interview, Prince Harry was asked when he knew Meghan was the one he was going to marry, to which he replied: ‘The very first time we met.’ Smooth.
Meghan and Harry attended the royal’s traditional Christmas morning church service at Sandringham on Monday – and the bride-to-be wore a rather stylish (and no doubt expensive), brown coat and matching hat.
Unfortunately, a lot of people thought her hat looked a bit like the smiling poop emoji and they took to Twitter to let the world know they’ve got a keen eye for comedy, of course.
Emoji’s aside, I think she looked great – Meghan attended the service with Harry as well as her future brother and sister-in-law the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The Royal family were greeted by well-wishers who’d been queuing for hours to see them all arrive for the annual church service.
We’ll wait and see if the Obamas get an invite…
