As Prince Harry celebrates his 34rd birthday, here’s a little throwback to when he had to deal with a popcorn thief at the Invictus Games last year (September 2017).
He handled it in the best way possible, after baby-sized burglar Emily – the daughter of a veteran, and former competitor, Dave Henson – earned gold for her snack-stealing skills.
Sitting on her mum Hayley’s knee at the Toronto based sporting event, the two-year-old could not give less of a fig about stealing royal popcorn during the semi-final volleyball game between the UK and Denmark.
Check it out below:
The newly crowned Duke of Sussex made the rookie mistake of turning away to have a chat, leaving the tempting treat unguarded. It was at this point cheeky Emily went in for the goods.
The footage came at the time Prince Harry‘s relationship with then-Suits actor, Meghan Markle, reportedly started to ‘heat up’.
The former wild child of the Windsor family appears to be much more chilled out since hitting his mid-thirties, and at the time, rumours were rife he’d be trading in his party days for family life with Meghan.
Speaking at the time with Vanity Fair, Meghan talked about her much publicised relationship with Harry, saying:
I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple. We’re two people who are really happy and in love.
We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception.
Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.
After their first public appearance together, which was at the Invictus Games – a sporting event for injured soldiers set up by former captain Harry himself – the pair seemed to be more committed than ever and was when rumours started to circulate about an engagement being on the cards.
Harry had previously spoken about his desire to start a family, and this glimpse into his manner and nature with children hasn’t gone unnoticed.
His reaction to catching Emily stealing his popcorn was been dubbed ‘the cutest thing’:

A year later, and my how things have changed.
Harry and Meghan got married and are now formally known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Seeing as we were speculating about them having a child this time last year, perhaps on his 35th birthday we’ll be talking about the fact he’s now a daddy?
Surely little George, Charlotte and Louis would love some equally regal cousins to run around the palace grounds with?
Well anyway, whether they do or don’t have children, here’s wishing Harry a very happy birthday! I hope your day is filled with lots of love, laughter and errrm, if it’s anything like my last celebrations, plenty of jaegerbombs!
Just kidding – I’m sure the Prince doesn’t drink such concoctions!
