Prisoners and police officers teamed up last week, jumping into action to rescue a one-year-old from a car.
On Thursday February 14 in Pasco County, Florida, a group of several prisoners out on a work release programme put their unconventional skills to the test, breaking into a car to rescue a trapped toddler.
Working alongside police officers, the group managed to break into the SUV outside the West Pasco Judicial Centre courthouse in New Port Richey, rescuing the child unhurt.
According to WFTS ABC Action News, mother Shadow Lantry said her husband had strapped their daughter Dallas into a car seat, tossing the keys into the front to grab later.
However, when he closed the back door, he realised the Chevy Tahoe was locked, with his daughter stuck inside. Luckily she was only there for five minutes.
Police were called to the scene, with the prisoners offering to help after hearing about the situation – they were repairing medians in the same parking lot.
The prisoners, described as low-level offenders, thankfully managed to unlock the door within minutes, by simply using a clothes hanger.
Sheriff Chris Nocco told the station it was a unique situation:
There’s only a very small percentage of those criminals out there that want to fight us and want to attack us, but a lot of them, like these individuals, they know they made bad mistakes, bad choices but they want to do the right thing in life.
Shadow was grateful for the prisoners’ efforts, adding she hopes to learn their identities so she can contribute to their commissary accounts.
The mother recorded the whole incident on her mobile phone, sharing the video on Facebook with the caption:
Pasco Sheriff’s Office lol this was a weird day man. I always got something interesting going on in my life.

In the video, as the door opens Shadow can be heard exclaiming:
Thank God you guys came out with a hanger. It’s so random. Thank you so much, it’s appreciated. Thank God for all the criminals in the world. I respect all y’all.
What a fucking day! Don’t ever lock those damn doors again.
Below in the comments section, Shadow repeatedly praised the prisoners adding ‘love em all, they’re all human too and this video proves it’.
