For decades fan theories have circulated suggesting that Quentin Tarantino’s films are all components of a larger masterpiece.
Finally, the man himself has answered the question, unravelling the speculations and revealing exactly what it is that connects all his characters.
Speaking on The Project on Monday night, Tarantino revealed the protagonists of his films are all inhabitants of one of two ‘universes’ of his creation, reports the Daily Mail.
The iconic director dismissed the popular theory that he has conceived just one fictional space for the roles.
However, it seems the notion wasn’t that far off the truth. He told viewers:
There is actually two separate universes. There is the realer than real universe, alright. And all the characters inhabit that one.
But then there’s this movie universe. So From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill, they all take place in this special movie universe.
So when all the characters of Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction, when they go to the movies, Kill Bill is what they go to see. From Dusk Till Dawn is what they see.
Tarantino was joined on the show by Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell as the trio hit the road promote their most recent film The Hateful Eight – which has been nominated for three Oscars.
A couple of days earlier Tarantino and Jackson turned up unannounced to a screening of the film in Sydney to the delight of surprised fans:
The boutique movie theatre’s owner Antoinette Katehos told Daily Mail Australia:
The patrons were just beside themselves – the energy in the room was just awesome, people were cheering and everybody was just going crazy.
To be honest, however many worlds or universes within universes Tarantino creates through his films, I’m just glad we get invited in every now and then.
