FacebookAmy Lee, the Evanescence songstress who woke up an entire generation of misunderstood teenagers, now has her eye on a very different audience.
Lee has a new visual album coming out called Dream Too Much – and it’s just for kids. The Amazon Music Original includes tracks such as ‘Donkey and Chicken’ and ‘Rubber Duckie’.
The title track has aired in advance of the album’s September 30 release date, accompanied by a delightful stop motion animated music video, which you can watch here:
Lee was inspired to make the kid’s album by her son, Jack.
The operatic singer told People that most of the lyrics are ‘nonsense’, which classic lines reportedly including ‘there’s a monkey in the band’ and ‘the muffins are all sleeping’.
She said:
Every song on this album has a story whether it’s an original for our son based on his favourite things or a song my dad used to sing to me when I was a little girl.
Seeing it through his [Jack’s] eyes is exactly what inspired the record. So the original songs, they came from him, from his little mind.
WikimediaNot ground-breaking musically, then, but for the purists out there, Lee does cover a few classic tracks such as The Beatles’ Hello, Goodbye. I, for one, am not going to turn down some musical escapism and a momentary regression back to childhood.
Although her new music release hits some pretty different notes to her mainstream goth rock of the early noughties, Lee has announced she plans to return to her roots.
