International pop star Rihanna has confirmed her and Drake are no longer friends, despite the God’s Plan rapper professing his love for her at 2016 MTV VMAs.
If I have one piece of advice, it’s to never tell a girl – who you’re not in a relationship with – ‘how much you love her’ in public, let alone in front of millions of people across the world.
Look, Drake is a fantastic artist but what he did at the VMAs was a rookie mistake, you could see in Rihanna’s eyes she was thinking ‘What in the hell do you think you’re doing. Just shut up and hand me my damn Vanguard Award fool!’.
Now, the relationship is so fractured, Drake doesn’t even cut in the dreaded ‘friend zone’ status.
During an interview with Vogue Rihanna revealed how she felt really ‘uncomfortable’ with Drake’s heartfelt speech.
She explained:
The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal.
Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments. I don’t like to be put on blast.
She also clarifies how, even though she and Drake are no longer friends, they ‘aren’t ‘enemies either, saying ‘it is what it is.’.
You can literally feel the coldness in her statement. If anything, at least this experience can be a new source of inspiration for the 6 God, because all of his best material is made after he goes through some serious heartbreak.
Rihanna and Drake’s relationship in the past has been filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows (mainly for Canada’s very own).
He even started a war over her with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, at a club, which involved hurtful messages and a champagne bottle being thrown. They’re mates again now though, apparently.
The VMAs weren’t the only occasion Drake professed his ‘admiration’ for Rihanna – at a concert back in 2016 he dubbed the Umbrella songstress ‘the greatest woman I’ve ever known in my entire life’ (word, even better than Beyonce?).
Then, in an interview with Rolling Stone he called her ‘the ultimate fantasy’, yet he also stated in the same interview, ‘we’re just friends, that’s my dog for life.’
Well not anymore mate.
It’s a shame Drake and Rihanna are no longer on friendly terms as the two have put out some killer tracks together like Work and Take Care.
While Drake’s relationship with Rihanna seems beyond repair at least he can take solace in the recent good work he’s done.
Back in February, he made headlines for all the right reasons after he donated his $1 million music video budget to random people who really needed it.
He used the money to pay for people’s shopping, a student’s college tuition fees and to support struggling families.
Recently, Rihanna proved how powerful and influential she is after calling out Snapchat for their recent poll, which asked users if they would ‘rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown’.
The ad was slammed for appearing to joke about Brown’s conviction for assaulting the star back in 2009 when the two were dating.
After she called out the ad for its poor taste in joking about such a horrible time in her life on Instagram, Snapchat’s share price fell by more than 4 per cent.
