Robinho Sentenced To Nine Years In Prison

Football star Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault.

According to Italian reports, the former Man City star is heading to prison for sexually assaulting an Albanian girl in a Milan nightclub, along with four other men, back in 2013.

Robinho will have an opportunity to dispute the sentence as the Italian law system allows for ‘several levels of appeal’, according to Bleacher Report.

The Brazilian was playing for AC Milan at the time, though is now playing in his native country, for Atletico Mineiro.

He hit his career high in 2005 when he joined Real Madrid, though was only intermittently successful at the club.

When he came to Manchester City, he broke the British transfer record with a £32 million move.

In 2009, during his time at City, he was accused of sexual assault, though he was cleared.

The accusation back then related to the rape of a university student in a Leeds nightclub.

The incident was alleged to have taken place on January 14 of 2009 and was reported to the police the same day.

In a staetement on Robinho’s website, his spokesman, Chris Nathaniel, said back in 2009:

We can confirm that Robinho met the police today as prearranged as part of a criminal investigation.

He strenuously denies any allegations of wrong-doing or criminality and is happy to co-operate with the police if required further.

A West Yorkshire police spokesman said:

A man was arrested and questioned in connection with an alleged incident in the Space nightclub in Leeds on January 14.

He has been released on police bail.

Robinho is yet to make a statement for his latest legal battle.
