Former James Bond actor Roger Moore has sparked controversy after claiming that a female Bond would not be true to the character.

It comes on the back of the actor previously saying that Idris Elba is not ‘English enough’ to play the iconic role – with Moore also saying that he felt a gay Bond wouldn’t be right either.

Daniel Craig is set to step away from the Bond films, with speculation growing over who could take the role next, and many people claiming a black actor should play Bond.

Moore said:

I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond. But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote.

It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist – it is simply about being true to the character.

The latest Bond film, Spectre is set to be released on Monday in the UK.
