RuptlyA company in Russia has started making armour for police dogs who sniff out dangerous areas, after a French police dog died in a terrorist blast in Paris.
The Scientific Production Association of Special Materials (NPO) have also released a video detailing how the armour works. Called ‘Nord body-armour’, the basic vest protects the dog’s neck and chest, while additional armour can also be added to the legs and head.
RuptlyDog handler Vladimir Khitrykh explains:
At first, of course, the dog did not like the vest. Then gradually she realised that it was for her own good and protection. We taught her with the help of incentives. We can put the armoured vest on the dog in just one minute.
The St. Petersberg based company was formed under the Soviet Union as a specialist armoured materials laboratory during the Cold War.
The news comes after Russia donated a puppy to France to carry on the work of Diesel, the police dog who died in a suicide blast during police raids in the French capital.
