Blake Lively’s husband is reportedly back in the fighting game, in a new Bermuda Triangle film from Skydance Productions which is currently in development with Sam Raimi attached to direct, reports That Hashtag Show.

Since then details regarding the film have been kept as submerged as the mythical triangle’s numerous victims… until now.

According to their sources, Reynolds is set to star in the lead role alongside the lucky actor cast to play the lead female role of Commander Vogel, who is the first female commander of a nuclear submarine.

Reynolds’ character details are under wraps at the moment.

The plot synopsis goes a little something like this:

When a massive submarine carry nuclear weapons goes missing in the Bermuda Triangle, Commander Vogel enlists the help of Dr. Fisk a theoretical physicist, who while using his grandfather’s research opens a wormhole to reveal a mysterious island that is inhabited by anything lost in the triangle including Sharks, Vikings, and Nazis, in the hopes of finding the nuclear weapons.

Warner Bros. Pictures

…and breathe.

By most reckonings, it would appear Reynolds will be playing the theoretical physicist, which should appeal to the 41-year-old’s self-confessed nerdy upbringings.

Between the Nazis and nuclear weapons – not to mention the sharks, supernatural and underwater breathing issue, it seems this motley crew will be up against it – and it sounds entertaining as hell.

The film will begin shooting this September and should wrap sometime in October, so you’ve got plenty of time to get your head around the plot.

Raimi, who hasn’t directed in six years, is famed for his cult horror hits – the likes of which include The Evil Dead trilogy, Darkman, Drag Me to Hell – so expect something scary, gruesome and marvellous.

He was also the brains behind Sony’s studio-defining Spider-Man trilogy.

His last directorial effort dates all the way back to 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful:

Raimi will direct from a script by John Gatins, who wrote last years Power Rangers film, and the film will be produced by Annihilation’s Don Granger, David Ellison, and Dan Goldberg.

There is currently no release date for Bermuda Triangle. But Universal and Warner Bros. also have Bermuda Triangle films in development, so expect Skydance to announce a release date real soon.

Let’s hope everyone’s favourite Canadian dad can bring his characteristic charm and wit to this supernatural cinema event, which we hope will be a little more Deadpool, a little less R.I.P.D.

Deadpool 2 is in cinemas nationwide now.
