Once Upon A Deadpool is intended to be a family-friendly PG-13 cut of hit sequel Deadpool 2 but Ryan Reynolds just can’t help himself.
We all know what you are like Ryan, you just can’t resist dark humour, which is good as nor can we!
And so in the recent poster for Once Upon A Deadpool there is a macabre Easter Egg in the shape of John Wick’s dog which fans are loving.
You can watch a trailer for Once Upon A Deadpool below:
Sharing the poster on Instagram, the heavenly image sees Reynolds’ Deadpool in an angelic state surrounded by actor Fred Savage, other people in heaven and a beagle which looks a lot like the one from the first John Wick film.
Now, I don’t want to bring back bad memories for anyone but notoriously the cute pup was brutally murdered by Russian mobsters.
Thankfully Wick has his revenge but we still can’t remove that tragic scene from our memories.
Just look at the love in the pairs’ eyes as they lovingly gaze at each other:
In the caption for his Instagram post Reynolds confirmed that the beagle is indeed Daisy from John Wick as he wrote:
I’ll never forgive David Leitch for what he did to that dog in John Wick.
Of course Leitch co-directed John Wick before he took on directing Deadpool 2, which also outright blames the director referring to Leitch in the opening credits as ‘the guy who killed John Wick’s dog’.
We will never forgive him either.
While the upcoming Christmas present from the Deadpool team is essentially a new cut of what we have seen before, Paul Wernick, the co-writer of Deadpool 2, confirmed audiences will also be treated to new footage.
He told /Film:
We definitely shot new stuff. And recently too. After Deadpool 2 came out and we were all sitting around, we came to it less about the idea of let’s make a PG-13 movie and more, ‘Let’s talk a little bit about Deadpool.’
We were kicking around some ideas and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all got excited and went to the studio. They said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. Fire up the cameras’.
Not only is Once Upon Upon A Deadpool a gift for all of us fans, but the generous team behind it are donating one dollar from every ticket sold to the charity ‘F*ck Cancer’, which has been renamed ‘Fudge Cancer’ to fit in with the family-friendly theme of course.
Reynolds told Deadline:
Because it’s the season of giving, we will also be giving $1 for every ticket sold to F*ck Cancer, which will be renamed Fudge Cancer just for this limited-time ad campaign. Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006.
I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…
I’m sure it did Ryan!
Once Upon A Deadpool arrives in UK cinemas – for one night only – on December 11.
