Comedian and notorious prankster, Sacha Baron Cohen has hit back at Sarah Palin after she claimed his latest stunt was ‘sick and evil’.
The former Governor of Alaska attacked Cohen on Facebook, after he fooled her into an interview while posing as a wounded American veteran for his new TV show, Who Is America?
In the post, Palin claimed to be the ‘latest in a long list of American public personalities who’ve fallen victim to the evil, exploitive, sick ‘humor’ (Sic) of the British “comedian” Sacha Baron Cohen’.
She explained how she believed the interview was a legitimate opportunity to honour American veterans, but after sitting through a long interview full of ‘disrespect and sarcasm’, she walked out.
In classic Cohen style, he responded to Palin by releasing a statement in character as Doctor Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr, which branded her comment’s as ‘FAKE NEWS’.
He wrote:
I am Dr. Billy Wayne Ruddick, founder/ceo/accountant of Truthbrary.org and it was I that interviewed you. I did NOT say I was a War Vet. I was in the service — not military, but United Parcel, and I only fought for my country once – when I shot a Mexican who came onto my property.
(Coincidentally, just like our Great President, I was sadly prevented from joining the regular army on account of bone spurs bein discovered in my testies.)
I have always admired you for TELLING THE TRUTH about Obama’s birth certificate and the location of Russia, but ma’am I do believe you have been hit by a bullshit grenade and are now bleedin’ FAKE NEWS.
He finished by demanding an apology along with some pro-Trump hashtags like ‘#MAGA’, ‘#buildthewall’ and ‘#boycottsachacohen’.
Palin later replied to Cohen’s claims of ‘FAKE NEWS’, calling them ‘pathetic’ and unfunny. She went on to call Cohen’s deception, unethical and perverted, before reiterating a demand Cohen and Showtime pay any profits from the show to a veterans charity.
Palin isn’t the only American politician to accidentally agree to an interview for Cohen’s new show. Former US Congressman, Joe Walsh, also admitted to falling victim to Cohen’s prank show.
He wrote on Twitter:
Totally believe @SarahPalinUSA’s account of the @SachaBaronCohen incident. Dressing up as a wounded veteran is absolutely stolen valor, his tactics are disguisting (Sic) – I know cause I too was duped. Here is what happened…#BoycottShowtime [sic]
I was invited to a pro-Israel dinner that honored defenders of Israel. The producers said they needed to film a pre-interview that would air as a part of Israel’s 70th birthday celebration. #BoycottShowtime
Former Vice President Dick Cheney was also filmed for the show, but it’s not clear whether he was tricked into participating.
Who Is America? which will premiere in the US on Showtime tomorrow night (15 July) while it will air on Channel 4 on Monday, 16 July in the UK.
