The heart-breaking first words of Saffie Roussos’ mum after she found out her eight-year-old daughter was killed in the Manchester Arena.
The devastated father of Saffie Roussos revealed the first thing his wife said as she woke from her coma was: “Saffie’s gone, isn’t she”.
Speaking on the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire Programme about his family’s loss for the first time, the grieving father confessed ‘that’s all that was said really’.
BBCSaffie was the youngest victim of Salman Abedi’s suicide attack, and her 48-year-old mum Lisa was put in an induced coma by doctors after suffering serious shrapnel injuries.
The young girl was attending the Ariana Grande concert with Lisa and her older sister Ashlee Bromwich.
When dad Andrew arrived at the scene of the attack, he found Ashlee being treated at the scene.
PALater he heard that his wife had been taken to Salford Royal Hospital, and hours later he received the devastating news that Saffie had been killed.
Andrew said:
I couldn’t take it in. I just sat there looking at him. It’s just your worst nightmare. I didn’t know what to say, I didn’t know what to think.
She was just everything you could wish for in a little girl.
BBCLisa has now undergone several operations and Andrew said it takes ‘a little bit of laughing’, ‘a little bit of joking’, and a little bit of crying and cuddling’ to get them through the day.
Today would have been Saffie’s ninth birthday, our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
