Take Brylan Hobson, here. The young schoolboy from Oklahoma stumbled across a dead squirrel and – waste not, want not – picked it up and put it in his rucksack, planning to take it home later.

Now usually, if your headteacher found a dead rodent in your bag you’d get a bollocking – but not Brylan. The kid got off scot-free as he had planned to take the animal home to cook ‘squirrel dumplings’ for his tea. Obviously.

His mum freaked out – as any parent would – when she got a call from the boy’s school, Gatewood Elementary, during the day explaining her son had picked up a dead rodent and carried it around with him all day.

Layde Hobson later wrote about the whole fiasco on Her View From Home, saying the principle had ‘found the humour’ in the bizarre situation.

The schoolboy from Oklahoma City apparently found out about squirrel dumpling soup from his grandpa and wanted to try it out.

It’s not my cup of tea, but apparently it’s the latest in culinary roadkill, according to YouTube.
