For all of Shia LaBeouf’s off-and-on-screen antics and shenanigans, you can’t deny he’s dedicated to his craft as an actor – bar those Transformers films.
When LaBeouf takes on a role he’s either 100 per cent in, or not in at all. Just like Marlon Brando, Tom Hardy and Christian Bale, he’s a method actor in the truest sense.
His latest project, The Tax Collector, sees the eccentric thespian sporting a new full body tattoo, which makes him near unrecognisable.
The picture was taken by Suicide Squad director David Ayer, who is helming LaBeouf’s latest film. While the plot is currently being kept secret, the film should be released sometime next year but has been billed as an indie thriller, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Ayer teased his followers on Twitter with a picture of Shia, along with the hashtag ‘#taxcollectormovie’. Co-star Brendan Schaub Tweeted a picture on August 2, which included himself, Ayer and LaBeouf.
In the caption Schaub wrote:
2am downtown Los Angeles on set with two of the most brilliant humans I’ve ever been around @DavidAyerMovies and Shia LaBeouf. #TaxCollector
This isn’t the first time LaBeouf and Ayer have worked together, the two worked with each other on 2014 World War II film Fury which also starred Brad Pitt, Jon Benthal and Michael Pena.
LaBeouf and Ayer were meant to work on the Warner Bros. and DC Comics film, Suicide Squad, according to Variety. But the plan got nixed due to off-screen issues, his part ended up going to Scott Eastwood. Considering how much of a critical flop the film was, I think it’s fair to say LaBeouf dodged a bullet.
Following series of high profile antics LaBeouf stated he wanted to change. His moment of clarity came after his arrest in Savannah, Georgia, last year for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. The incident occurred while filming on location for The Peanut Butter Falcon. Footage of the incident also appeared to show the troubled actor yelling racist remarks at a black police officer.
Speaking to Esquire LaBeouf, who suffers from PTSD, said:
I need to take ownership of my s*** and clean up my side of the street a bit before I can go out there and work again, so I’m trying to stay creative and learn from my mistakes.
This year will also see the well-renowned star in his most daring film yet… which happens to be about Shia LaBeouf.
While some may easily mistake this as a vanity project by a narcissistic Hollywood elite, those who have followed the controversial actor’s career know the truth – it is, in fact, the most Shia LaBeouf thing Shia LaBeouf has ever done in the history of Shia LaBeouf.
Before you ask no it’s isn’t called ‘Shia LaBeouf As Shia LaBeouf’, it’s titled Honey Boy which was his nickname growing up.
To complicate matters even more the man we once knew from the irritating loveable Even Stevens isn’t even playing himself, instead, he’ll be playing his father.
However, if you look at it in a metaphorical way, Shia LaBeouf is playing Shia LaBeouf because didn’t Shia LaBeouf come from the sperm of Shia LaBeouf’s father? It’s pure Shia LaBeouf-inception.
