A woman who has been shamelessly stealing flowers and other mementos from a dead grandmother’s grave has been caught on camera.
Marg Allerston-Medeiros posted the footage on Facebook after she caught the woman taking the items from the grave of her 86-year-old mother Alma Allerston.
Mrs Almaston died on Easter Sunday and was buried at a cemetery in London, Ontario in Canada.
Since then Marg and her family have been decorating her grave with fresh flowers and personal tributes, but an unidentified person has been routinely ripping the flowers from the ground and stealing the mementos.
Marg decided to try and catch the culprit and installed a hidden camera by the grave, which captured this footage on Wednesday of a blonde woman ripping out the flowers and putting them into a box before running away.
Speaking to AM980.ca, Marg said:
As of June 1st, we started planting flowers. If you notice from the picture in the video, the green grasses always get left, and the flowers always get taken and ripped right from the ground, which I have to tell you does leave a big hole when you show up to water those new flowers and they’re gone. It’s happened probably ten or twelve times now.
On several occasions she said the stolen mementos and flowers had been found disposed of in a nearby rubbish bin. The attacks have understandably left Marg heartbroken and she says she has no idea why somebody would be targeting this particular grave.
She added:
The grieving process has been hell, obviously. Everyone loved her, you know, she was the kind of lady that took you under her wing. I don’t get it. Now, my husband and I, and sister, we’re not in there [the grave plot] now, but we will be in that plot one day, so our names are there, so I don’t know if it’s a personal attack on one of us three. I just don’t know at this point.
Unfortunately, the footage did not capture the thief’s face, so police have been unable to track her down. Marg has requested that anyone with information on the person responsible should contact the police or send her a private message on Facebook.
This is awful. Why would somebody do this?
