Barely a day has passed since the horrific and tragic mass shooting at a high school in Florida and yet people are already taking to social media to make crass jokes.
A student at high school in South Carolina posted a shocking picture on social media with a caption which read: ‘Round 2 of Florida tomorrow’ while holding what appears to be an assault rifle.
Most likely a case of poor taste, the authorities have taken the unidentified students post seriously in the wake of yesterday’s tragic massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, carried out by lone gunman and ex-student, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz.
The 9th grader at the school in South Carolina has now been placed in custody after a concerned parent reported the Snapchat post to the police.
According to TMZ police ‘descended’ on the high school students home, but he claimed to police the picture on the social media app was meant to be a joke.
Police searched his house and found a gun – the one believed to have been brazenly posted on Snapchat.
It turns out the weapon in question was only an airsoft rifle.
After the authorities completed a thorough search of his home, they came to the conclusion there were no firearms in the house.
The pupil was then taken into police custody and is currently being held at a juvenile facility, at the time of writing.
According to report,s the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School gunman, Nikolas Cruz, a former student who was expelled for disciplinary reasons, was brought to the attention of the FBI last year September.
Ben Bennight, a 36-year-old bail bondsman and vlogger, alerted YouTube, as well as the FBI in September in regards to a comment left on one of his videos by Cruz.
According to BuzzFeed News, in the post Cruz wrote:
I’m going to be a professional school shooter.
Bennight had told the FBI:
This comment was left on my YouTube Channel. The comment has been reported to YouTube as well.
After Federal agents quickly contacted him, Bennight said:
They came to my office the next morning and asked me if I knew anything about the person. I didn’t.
They took a copy of the screenshot and that was the last I heard from them.
Cruz was apprehended yesterday by local Police in Florida shortly after the shooting, before being immediately placed in police custody where he was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
