Sinead O’Connor has released a 12-minute video saying she is ‘suicidal’, ‘alone’ and living out of a motel in the ‘arse end of New Jersey’.
Fears are growing for the 50-year-old mother-of-four, who rose to fame with her hauntingly beautiful vocals in the 1990s. O’Connor was diagnosed with bi-polar more than a decade ago and has struggled with depression and post traumatic stress for years.
The Irish musician has shared a heart-wrenching insight into mental illness, saying she is ‘fighting like all the millions of people’ who are doing their best everyday to overcome stigma.
O’Connor said:
And there’s absolutely nobody in my life except my doctor, my psychiatrist – the sweetest man on earth, who says I’m his hero – and that’s about the only fucking thing keeping me alive at the moment… and that’s kind of pathetic.
I want everyone to know what it’s like, that’s why I’m making this video. Mental illness, it’s like drugs, it doesn’t give a shit who you are, and equally what’s worse, it’s the stigma, it doesn’t give a shit who you are.
Suddenly all the people who are supposed to be loving you and taking care of you are treating you like shit. It’s like a witch hunt.

Many of Sinead’s fans were quick to offer support and kind words for the troubled singer, who has recently been hospitalised for kidney stones, at this difficult time.
