GettyAlex Ferguson, the manager who won Manchester United 38 major trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, has been rushed to hospital.
An ambulance was immediately sent to his home in Cheshire at 9am on Saturday morning and took him to Macclesfield District General Hospital.
His son, Darren Ferguson – Doncaster Rovers manager – had to miss his side’s final fixture of the League One campaign today, May 5, due to ‘severe family issues’, MailOnline reports.
GettyAlex Ferguson joined Manchester United as manager in November 1986, following a successful career in Scotland leading Aberdeen to three Scottish league titles, four Scottish cups and the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup in 1983.
In 1986 he led the Scottish national team to the 1986 Mexico World Cup.
His career at United got off to a rocky start and could have come to a close before any major titles were won.
Yet under Ferguson, Manchester United went on to win the 1990 FA Cup, kickstarting two decades of dominance in British football, with 13 Premier Leagues, five FA cups, a UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup and two Champions League titles. In 1999 the team won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League becoming the first English team to achieve the Treble.
