This is the story of a man in a hurry, a glass door, lots of blood (seriously, lots of blood, you’ve been warned, pics are below), and a wife who knows how to use a tourniquet in an emergency situation.

A lad has shared his story on the web about how his wife saved his life after a freakish accident.

It goes like this:

“I was running out the door for work, I was too lazy to reach for the door handle and pushed our storm door on the upper glass portion. The door was caught on the latch (which it never does) and my arm went right through. I cut my bicep and brachialis muscles completely in half and basically every blood vessel besides the brachial artery.

My wife tied a tourniquet around my arm and death gripped my arm to attempt to stop the bleeding while calling 911. My wife said she could see the bone when the paramedics were inspecting it.”

Are you ready for the blood?

One minute you’re saying “bye my love, see you tonight” and rushing out the door. The next minute you’re rapidly losing blood and possibly within a minute or two of losing consciousness.

If this lad’s missus wasn’t around (and knows how to use a tourniquet!? And knows how to not panic and faint!?) the end scenario could have been fatal.

Something as simple as a glass door ending your life is a terrifying thought.

Folks have been jumping on reddit to give their assessments…

The backstory for his missus is still shrouded in some mystery. I’m wondering if she’s a sleeper agent? Perhaps like Geena Davis in the Long Kiss Goodnight? She’s totally Geena Davis.

Was it an actual tourniquet in the house? Or did she whip one up with a belt? A tea towel? In under one minute flat? I have endless questions.

He has shared a photo of him and his wife and they’re hands down adorable.

Moral of the story…

1) It’s about time I took a first aid course.

2) Walking at reasonable paces and unlatching doors assists your longevity in life.
