The most terrifying abomination to ever come from The Internet is set to get it’s own movie. No it’s not 4Chan, it’s the dreaded Slender Man.

The horrifying Slender Man is a thankfully fictional supernatural character that was born as an Internet meme but quickly took on a life of its own becoming a full blown Internet urban legend.

Now the monstrous meme has gotten to the point where Hollywood’s turned its eye to the creature, and the production company Screen Gems are working on a full blown Slender Man movie, with a script written by David Birke.

It sounds like the movie’s got potential as Screen Gems have been behind a number of recent horror movies like Boogeyman, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hostel, and the Resident Evil series.

Most promisingly they were behind The Mothman Prophecies, a film I’ve always had a fondness for and proves they can tell a creepy urban legend tale.

Birke on the other hand has written a number of horror screenplays and about the lives of real life serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy.

The movie will reportedly go into production in late 2016 with a release date set for next year. That said there’s no casting news and no director attached yet so who knows when slender will be making his on-screen debut.

Slender as he’s sometime known is depicted as resembling an unnaturally tall and thin creature vaguely resembling a man in a black suit with a blank and usually featureless face.

The creature has been the subject of a number of terrifying games, stories and an upcoming HBO documentary.
