Good news for fans of sneaky kills and stealthy thrills, Sniper Elite 4 has been announced, and it’s coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC this year.
Sniper Elite 4 will maintain the World War II setting of its predecessor, and will apparently take place immediately after Sniper Elite 3 ends. This time around, we’ll get to murder people in Italy, 1943.
We’ll be taking control of Office of Strategic Services agent Karl Fairburne as he aids the Italian Resistance in a bid to free the country from “fascist leaders”.
Developer Rebellion have emphasised the importance of Fairburne’s mission: If he fails there’ll be no Operation Overlord, no D-Day landing, and ultimately no victory in Europe – no pressure then.
Rebellion are aiming to create the “ultimate” World War II shooter, and were keen to point out that this is the first Sniper Elite game that was designed without the limitations of last gen hardware (Sniper Elite 3 came out for both last and current generation consoles).
The devs were also keen to stress that some of Sniper Elite 4’s maps will be “many times the size” of anything we saw in the last game. Check out the impressive looking trailer below.
It’s clear that there’s a big demand for WWII shooters right now (although that love probably never really went away). Rebellion confirmed that the Sniper Elite series has shifted more than 10 million copies, and the recently announced Battalion 1944 continues to smash all its Kickstarter goals.
